U.S. Trade with Syria

Generally no. Syria is subject to comprehensive US sanctions under the Syrian Sanctions Regulations administered by OFAC. Most transactions involving Syria, Syrian nationals, or Syrian entities are prohibited without a specific OFAC license, with limited exceptions for certain humanitarian goods.

OFAC general licenses permit certain exports of food, medicine, and medical devices to Syria for humanitarian purposes. Exporters must still comply with EAR and other applicable regulations and should review current OFAC guidance before proceeding.

Prior to the conflict, Syria's key exports included crude oil, refined petroleum, phosphates, cotton, and agricultural products. Its main imports were machinery, transport equipment, food, and chemicals.
