U.S. Census Bureau trade data is published under five classification systems at once. Each assigns a code to every import and export shipment — which one you use depends on your question: tracking a physical product, an industry, an economic category, or advanced-technology trade. All five draw from the same underlying monthly data; a single coffee shipment appears in every one under a different code.
