The 2022 HS revision added insects as an explicit component of this heading's scope, but US 10-digit lines under 1601 do not yet have a dedicated insect-specific breakout — insect-containing sausages would currently be classified in the residual 'other than poultry' line (1601000090) or another applicable line based on the predominant meat or protein content. Given the novelty of insect-based meat products, importers should seek a binding ruling from CBP and confirm FDA or FSIS jurisdiction based on the product's composition before importation.
