Insect preparations are explicitly included in headings 1601 and 1602 following recent schedule updates. Sausages or similar products made from insects fall under 1601, while other prepared or preserved insect products go to 1602. FDA regulates insect-derived food products, and importers should verify that the specific insect species and preparation method comply with applicable food-safety requirements.
