Inboard Motorboats Not Exceeding 7.5 Meters

An inboard motorboat has its engine mounted within the hull, driving a fixed propeller shaft. An outboard motorboat uses a self-contained motor unit clamped or bolted to the transom. Vessels with stern-drive (inboard/outboard) configurations are generally treated as inboard for classification purposes, but importers should confirm with CBP or a licensed broker when the propulsion type is ambiguous.

Vessels manufactured in Mexico may qualify for USMCA preferential tariff treatment if they meet the applicable rules of origin, including regional value content and tariff-shift requirements. The importer must possess a valid certification of origin (which can be self-certified by the exporter, producer, or importer) at the time of entry and retain it for five years. CBP may request supporting production records during a post-entry audit.
