North American Industry Classification System
No. NAICS codes are used for statistical reporting by the Census Bureau and do not appear on CBP entry forms. Customs entries require HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes, which determine duty rates and admissibility requirements.
Analysts use five-digit NAICS aggregations to compare import and export trends across industry segments without the granularity of individual six-digit lines. It is particularly useful for benchmarking a company's trade flows against sector-wide data published in Census foreign trade statistics.
