Wrought Magnesium and Other Magnesium Articles

Magnesium becomes 'wrought' once it has been mechanically worked — through rolling into sheet or plate, extruding into profiles, forging, or drawing — which alters its grain structure. Cast shapes that have not been further mechanically worked remain 'unwrought.' The distinction matters because the two forms carry different tariff lines and potentially different trade-remedy exposure.

Each distinct article must be classified separately. Wrought parts classify under 8104900000, while unwrought ingots fall under 8104190000 (if below 99.8% purity) or the appropriate high-purity line. CBP requires separate line items on the entry summary for goods with different HTS classifications, even within the same shipment.
