Heading 7603 · $8.1M of $2.8B
Lamellar powders (flakes) have a flat, plate-like structure produced by mechanical deformation, giving them a high surface-area-to-thickness ratio used in reflective pigments and coatings. Non-lamellar powders retain a more granular or spherical shape suited to sintering and chemical reactions. The physical structure, not the end use, determines which subheading applies.
Certain aluminum powders, particularly fine-particle grades used in pyrotechnics or energetic materials, may be subject to export controls in the country of origin and import review by relevant US agencies depending on end use. Importers should review applicable Commerce and State Department regulations for dual-use materials.
