Profiles are semi-finished products with a uniform cross-section along their length, not yet assembled or further worked into a finished article. Once an extrusion is cut, drilled, or assembled into a structure such as a window frame or curtain wall component, it may shift to a different heading. The degree of further working and whether the article has assumed the character of a finished good are the key classification factors.
The US has maintained antidumping and countervailing duty orders on aluminum extrusions from certain countries. The scope of those orders, the covered product descriptions, and any exclusions are detailed in Commerce Department Federal Register notices. Importers should check the current order scope and request a scope ruling if their product's classification is uncertain.
