Fresh or Chilled Swordfish Fillets (Xiphias gladius)

The FDA advisory on methylmercury in swordfish is a consumption guidance measure rather than an import admissibility bar — it does not prevent entry of swordfish fillets. However, retail importers and distributors should be aware of FDA's consumer guidance recommending limited consumption for certain populations, as some retail chains require advisory labeling at point of sale.

Swordfish is managed under ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas) and other regional bodies. Importers may be required to present a swordfish statistical document or equivalent catch certificate issued by the exporting country's fisheries authority, as the US participates in international catch documentation programs designed to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
