Bombay mace (also called wild mace) refers to mace derived from Myristica malabarica or related wild species, as opposed to the cultivated Myristica fragrans. The US schedule assigns it a separate 10-digit line (0908222000), while all other crushed or ground mace falls under 0908224000. Importers should obtain botanical identification documentation from their supplier to support the correct line.

Both forms are subject to FDA prior notice and spice sampling programs. Ground mace may receive additional scrutiny for adulteration or contamination because the grinding process can obscure the source material.
