Liquid Dielectric Transformers, Power Handling Capacity Exceeding 650 KVA but Not Exceeding 10,000 KVA

The nameplate rated capacity of the transformer, expressed in KVA, is the controlling figure. Importers should ensure the commercial invoice and technical documentation clearly state the rated KVA, as CBP will use this to assign the correct 10-digit line. Transformers with multiple tap settings should be classified based on the maximum rated capacity shown on the nameplate.

Beyond standard entry documents, CBP typically expects a commercial invoice with the rated KVA, country of manufacture, and unit value; a packing list; and technical specifications or a nameplate data sheet. If the shipment is subject to an AD/CVD order, a scope ruling or certification of origin may also be required. Large transformers often move as project cargo, so advance coordination with a customs broker on entry timing and examination procedures is advisable.
