Heading 10 of 10 in chapter 04 · 2 products
Heading 0410 · $1.0M of $426.8M
FDA treats edible insects and insect-derived ingredients as foods subject to standard food-safety requirements, including facility registration and compliance with adulteration and misbranding rules. Novel insect species or novel uses may also require evaluation as food additives. Importers should consult FDA guidance on insect-derived foods and work with a licensed customs broker or regulatory counsel before the first shipment.
Heading 0410 is a residual: it captures edible animal-origin products not classified elsewhere in Chapter 4. If the product is a dairy item, egg product, honey, or another good with its own heading, it goes there first. Only products that genuinely have no more specific home in the chapter — such as certain insect preparations or unusual animal-origin edibles — fall under 0410.
