Carbon disulfide is classified as a flammable liquid with a very low flash point and is also toxic. DOT regulations require appropriate UN-rated packaging, hazard labels, and shipping papers identifying the correct UN number and packing group. Carriers must be informed of the hazard class, and importers should verify that the foreign shipper's packaging meets 49 CFR standards before the shipment departs.

With Canada as the dominant — and effectively sole — leading supplier, any disruption to Canadian production capacity, border logistics, or regulatory status can directly affect US availability. Importers relying on CS₂ as a process input should maintain safety stock and monitor supplier capacity, as alternative sourcing from other origins would likely involve longer lead times and potentially different tariff treatment.
