Weaving Machines (Looms)

For procurement, the weft-insertion method — rapier, projectile, air-jet, or water-jet — determines the range of yarns and fabric constructions the loom can handle, its energy consumption, and its maintenance profile. For customs classification, the mechanism type can be a distinguishing characteristic within loom subheadings, so importers should specify the technology in commercial documentation to support accurate classification.

Used looms are classified under the same headings as new equipment and are subject to the same duty rates and any applicable trade-remedy measures. However, valuation of used machinery requires documentation of actual transaction value or, where that is unavailable, an alternative customs valuation method. Some buyers also commission pre-shipment inspections to verify machine condition and specifications, which can support both valuation and classification.
