Producer Gas, Water Gas, and Acetylene Gas Generators

Water process gas generators produce combustible gases through chemical reactions involving water or steam — such as the reaction of steam with coke to produce water gas, or the reaction of calcium carbide with water to produce acetylene. Gas generators that operate on different principles (such as electrolysis or compression of natural gas) do not fall under this heading and classify elsewhere in the SITC schedule.

Acetylene generators are pressure-generating equipment and may be subject to OSHA safety standards and, depending on design, ASME pressure vessel codes for domestic installation. Importers should verify that equipment meets applicable US safety standards before entry and consult with the relevant regulatory authority, as non-compliant pressure equipment may be refused admission or require modification.
