Parts of Nuclear Reactors

Parts intended for safety-related applications in US commercial nuclear reactors must generally conform to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III (nuclear components) and the NRC's quality assurance requirements under 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B. Importers and utilities must maintain documentation of material traceability, fabrication records, and supplier qualification to satisfy NRC inspection requirements.

Not necessarily — NRC import licensing requirements depend on whether the part contains nuclear material (such as enriched uranium or special nuclear material) or is simply a structural or mechanical component. Most mechanical reactor parts (pump housings, vessel flanges, control rod guides) do not require NRC import licenses, though they must still meet applicable quality and material standards. Parts containing nuclear material require specific NRC authorization.
