However, general-purpose power supplies or inverters that can be adapted for welding may be classified under electrical apparatus headings. The intended design and marketing of the unit are key factors, and a binding ruling is advisable for borderline cases.

Welding consumables such as coated electrodes, filler wire, and flux-cored wire are classified under their own HTS headings — typically in the base-metal chapters — and are entered separately from the welding machine. Importing them together with equipment does not change their individual classifications, but importers should ensure each line item is correctly identified on the entry to avoid misclassification.
