North American Industry Classification System
USDA FSIS inspects imported poultry meat and processed egg products at the port of entry; shipments must come from FSIS-approved foreign establishments. Live poultry and hatching eggs are regulated by USDA APHIS, which enforces quarantine and disease-prevention requirements separately.
Certain poultry cuts—particularly chicken leg quarters—are subject to TRQ treatment, meaning in-quota shipments face a lower duty rate while above-quota volumes are assessed at a higher rate. Importers must track quota fill levels and time shipments accordingly to manage landed costs.
