However, in commercial and NAICS-based trade reporting, "canola" is the common trade name used in North America. Importers should use the HTS rapeseed subheadings for customs entry regardless of the commercial name on the invoice.

USDA APHIS enforces the Federal Seed Act and Plant Protection Act, which restrict the importation of seeds containing noxious weed seeds above tolerance levels. Oilseed shipments may be subject to inspection and, if contaminated, can be refused entry or required to undergo cleaning treatment before release.
