North American Industry Classification System
The four-digit level is used for aggregate trade reporting, industry benchmarking, and supply-chain mapping. Analysts use it to identify broad sector trends before drilling into six-digit categories for tariff classification, supplier sourcing, and compliance review.
It depends on the specific product and country of origin. Certain industrial machinery lines are subject to Section 301 tariffs when imported from China, and some steel or aluminum-intensive equipment may carry Section 232 exposure. Classification at the HTS level — not the NAICS level — determines the actual duty treatment.
