Processing for spinning typically involves carding (passing fibers through wire-covered rollers to align them) or combing (further aligning and removing short fibers). The resulting product has a more uniform, parallel fiber structure compared to raw staple. Physical examination, mill certificates, or processing records from the supplier can support the classification.
A blended processed staple fiber would be classified based on the predominant fiber by weight. If polyester predominates, it goes under 550620; if acrylic or modacrylic predominates, under 550630. If neither fiber type reaches a clear majority or the blend does not fit a named subheading, the residual subheading 550690 applies.
