Slaked lime, or calcium hydroxide, is formed by reacting quicklime with water and occupies a distinct tariff line (2522200000) from both quicklime and hydraulic lime. Its applications span water softening and pH adjustment, soil stabilization, food-grade processing, and the production of mortar and plaster. Mexico and Canada together dominate US import supply, with the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Thailand rounding out the supplier base. Food-contact and potable-water grades of slaked lime may be subject to FDA or EPA regulatory review depending on the declared end use.
