Quicklime — calcium oxide produced by calcining limestone at high temperatures — is a high-reactivity industrial chemical used in steel production, water treatment, flue-gas desulfurization, and chemical manufacturing. Canada and Mexico are the leading US import sources, with the United Kingdom, Spain, and Austria supplying smaller but commercially relevant volumes.
