Saccharin and Its Salts

Saccharin from China has historically been subject to antidumping duty orders administered by the US Department of Commerce. Importers sourcing from China should check the current status of any antidumping orders with the International Trade Administration before entry, as such orders can significantly affect landed cost and require cash deposit payments at the time of importation.

FDA regulations require that food products containing saccharin bear a specific warning statement on the label. While the original cancer-warning requirement was based on animal studies later deemed not applicable to humans, and saccharin was delisted from the National Toxicology Program's carcinogen report, the labeling regulation itself should be confirmed as current with FDA before marketing any saccharin-containing product, as regulatory requirements can be updated.
