Unlike the European Union and several other jurisdictions that have banned potassium bromate as a food additive, the US has not issued a federal prohibition, though FDA has encouraged bakers to voluntarily discontinue its use. Importers of potassium bromate intended for food-contact applications should confirm current FDA guidance and any state-level restrictions — California, for example, requires a Proposition 65 warning for bromate-treated baked goods — and consult a licensed customs broker or regulatory counsel for admissibility requirements.
