This line applies only when the fish species does not match any of the named species lines in the heading — such as those for mahi-mahi, orange roughy, pike, perch varieties, or the block-form perch lines. Importers should first check all named lines before defaulting to the NESOI residual, as misclassification away from a specific line can result in incorrect duty treatment or CBP scrutiny.

FDA's HACCP seafood safety requirements apply uniformly regardless of which 10-digit line is used. However, the species name must still appear on the commercial invoice and FDA entry documentation for admissibility review. The NESOI tariff classification does not relieve the importer of the obligation to identify the species accurately for food labeling and safety purposes.
