Importers dealing with specialty or bycatch species from these families should verify that no more specific line applies before using this residual classification.

Because multiple gadoid species covered by this line are on the SIMP-covered species list (including cod and hake), importers must file harvest event data — vessel, flag state, fishing area, gear type, and species — at entry. When a shipment contains species not individually listed under SIMP, importers should confirm current NMFS guidance on applicability, as the program's species scope has expanded over time.
