Single-layer solid hardwood strip and plank flooring — such as tongue-and-groove oak or walnut planks — commonly classifies here because it is neither a mosaic (small-element) panel nor a multilayer composite. Hybrid products with unusual core constructions that don't meet the face-ply or layer definitions of 441873–441875 may also default to this residual provision. Importers with non-standard flooring constructions should document the product's layer count, face-ply thickness, and element dimensions to support classification.

The multilayer subheadings (441875) take precedence when the product meets their specific construction criteria — multiple bonded layers with a defined face ply. If the product is a single-layer solid plank or its construction falls outside those definitions, 441879 applies as the residual. When the classification is genuinely ambiguous, filing a binding ruling request with CBP before importation is the most reliable way to establish the correct subheading and avoid post-entry penalties.
