Aluminum Tube or Pipe Fittings

HTS 7609 covers finished fittings — couplings, elbows, sleeves, and similar connectors — designed to join tubes or pipes. Aluminum extrusions that have not been further worked into a fitting shape are classified under 7604. The key question is whether the article has been machined, threaded, or otherwise finished to function as a connector. CBP has issued scope rulings on this boundary in the context of antidumping orders on aluminum extrusions from China, and importers with borderline products should consider requesting a scope ruling or binding classification ruling.

Entries should include a commercial invoice describing the fitting type (coupling, elbow, sleeve, etc.), material specification (alloy grade), dimensions, and manufacturing method. A certificate of origin is needed to establish country of origin for Section 232 and any applicable antidumping purposes. If the fittings are machined from bar or forged rather than extruded, that process distinction should be documented, as it can affect scope determinations under existing trade-remedy orders.
