Schedule B codes are 10-digit numbers used to classify products for U.S. export declarations. Administered by the U.S. Census Bureau, these codes are required on all Automated Export System (AES) filings and shipping documents.
Schedule B codes share their first 6 digits with the international Harmonized System (HS) codes. The last 4 digits are U.S.-specific extensions for export tracking. This means you can start with an HS code and narrow down to the correct Schedule B number.
While Schedule B codes are used for exports, HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes are used for imports. Both share the same first 6 HS digits but differ in their 4-digit extensions. Importers should use the HS Code Lookup tool instead.
