Wood Packing Cases, Boxes, Crates, Drums & Cable-Drums

All regulated wood packaging material must bear the IPPC mark, which includes the country code, producer/treatment provider code, and the treatment abbreviation (HT for heat treatment or MB for methyl bromide fumigation). The mark must be legible, permanent, and located in a visible position on at least two opposite sides of the packaging. Shipments with missing, illegible, or counterfeit marks are subject to APHIS action at the port of entry.

ISPM 15 applies to all wood packaging material used to support, protect, or carry a commodity during international transport, including cable-drums, reels, and spools made of raw wood. Engineered wood products such as plywood or OSB that are manufactured using heat and adhesives are generally exempt, but solid-wood components in a cable-drum must meet treatment requirements. Importers of cable and wire products should confirm with their supplier that all wood components are ISPM 15-compliant.
