Importers should request a processing certificate or heat-treatment record from the manufacturer confirming temperatures and duration used, and may also request a certificate of analysis showing hydrocyanic acid (HCN) equivalent levels within safe limits for the target animal species.

Linseed meal is particularly valued in specialty livestock programs — such as omega-3-enriched egg production or pasture-raised beef finishing — where its high alpha-linolenic acid content can measurably alter the fatty acid profile of the end product. Its mucilaginous fiber fraction also supports digestive health in horses and young ruminants. However, its lower crude protein relative to soybean meal means it is typically used as a supplement rather than a primary protein source.
