Knotted netting is formed by tying individual strands at each mesh intersection, creating a structure that can be pulled apart at the knots. Warp-knitted or raschel netting, by contrast, is formed by looping rather than knotting and may classify differently. The manufacturing method — knotted versus knitted — is the key technical distinction customs examiners look for.

Fishing and aquaculture nets made from synthetic fibers originating in certain countries may be subject to antidumping or countervailing duty orders, or to Section 301 tariffs if sourced from China. Importers should check the current scope of any applicable orders against their specific net type, fiber content, and country of origin before finalizing sourcing decisions.
