These applications demand the tight thickness tolerances and smooth surface finish that cold-rolling provides, and often specify mechanical properties such as hardness or yield strength that must be documented in mill test certificates.

Width is measured as the actual cut width of the strip, not the width of the parent coil before slitting. If a wide cold-rolled coil is slit to widths under 600mm before export, the resulting strip classifies as narrow cold-rolled strip. However, if slitting occurs after importation, the classification at the time of entry is based on the width as imported — meaning the parent coil width governs.
