Potato Flakes, Granules, and Pellets

Potato flakes are produced by drum-drying cooked mashed potato into thin sheets that are then broken apart, yielding a product that rehydrates quickly and produces a smooth texture. Granules are made through a more controlled drying process that preserves individual cell structure, resulting in a firmer, less sticky rehydrated product preferred in certain industrial applications. The choice between them affects texture, water absorption, and processing line compatibility.

Potato pellets intended for further processing (e.g., snack manufacturing) generally enter as food ingredients subject to standard FDA Prior Notice and entry documentation. If pellets contain added flavors, colors, or other ingredients, those additives must comply with US food additive regulations, and the full ingredient list should be disclosed on the commercial invoice to avoid delays at entry.
