At the SITC level, all unwrought aluminum alloys fall under 68412 regardless of series. At the HTS 10-digit level, distinctions may exist based on alloy composition or form, so importers should verify the applicable tariff line for their specific alloy. The alloy series designation matters primarily for commercial and end-use specification purposes rather than for heading-level classification.

Unwrought status requires that the material not have been worked beyond casting or continuous casting — it should not exhibit characteristics of a wrought product such as a defined cross-section achieved by rolling or extrusion. Continuously cast rod or redraw rod, for example, may be classified as wire rod rather than unwrought alloy. Importers should ensure that the product form and production method are clearly documented to defend the unwrought classification if questioned by CBP.
