FSIS requires that imported ready-to-eat meat products carry labels that accurately reflect cooking status, handling instructions, and ingredient declarations consistent with US standards. Products that are fully cooked must be labeled as such; those requiring further cooking must carry safe-handling instructions. Labels must be submitted to FSIS for approval, and foreign-language-only labels are not acceptable for US retail distribution.
