North American Industry Classification System
NAICS codes are designed for domestic production statistics and group products by manufacturing process and industry, not by tariff treatment. A single NAICS 33299 category can contain products spanning dozens of HTS headings. Importers must classify each article individually under the HTS schedule based on its material, function, and construction — NAICS codes have no direct bearing on duty rates or trade-remedy applicability.
Many fabricated metal articles made primarily of steel or aluminum may be subject to Section 232 tariffs, but applicability depends on the specific HTS subheading and whether any product-specific exclusions have been granted. Importers should verify the current status of exclusions through the Commerce Department's exclusion portal and consult a licensed customs broker for guidance on their specific product.
