Ferrous Metal Foundries

Iron foundries produce gray iron, ductile iron, and malleable iron castings — high-volume, cost-sensitive parts that have attracted antidumping actions from domestic producers. Steel investment castings are lower-volume, high-precision parts (often for aerospace, defense, or energy applications) made by the lost-wax process; they face a different competitive landscape and are more often subject to export controls or specialty material certifications than to broad antidumping orders.

Importers should maintain mill certificates or foundry certifications identifying the metal grade and casting process, purchase orders and invoices showing the country where the casting was poured (not merely finished or machined), and any applicable scope rulings from the Department of Commerce if the product falls near the boundary of an active antidumping or countervailing duty order. Substantial transformation rules mean that machining a casting in a third country does not necessarily change its country of origin for trade-remedy purposes.
